Christopher Ronald Furnas, age 49, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018. Chris was born February 11, 1969 to Ronald and Carlene (Morgan) Furnas in Independence, Kansas. He grew up in Sycamore, Kansas and attended the Sycamore United Methodist Church. Chris graduated from Independence High School in 1987. He attended Independence Community College before transferring to Pittsburg State University where he graduated with a degree in Automotive Technology in May of 1993.

Chris began employment with Ford Motor Company on April 7, 1993 in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1995 he was transferred to Louisiana where he worked for over 21 years as a Service Training Instructor, a Customer Service Engineer, a Customer Service Manager, and a Zone Manager. He transferred back to Kansas in the fall of 2016 and was currently serving as a Field Service Engineer in the Kansas City Region.

Chris was grateful to be living close to his family and childhood friends again. He took pride in the home he bought outside of Independence and loved to watch deer and turkeys eat corn from a feeder in his yard. He was a good cook, enjoyed Cajun food, loved boating, and took pride in his work. He loved his family and was a good son, brother, and uncle. His passing came too soon.

Those left to cherish Chris’ memory are his parents, a sister Crystal Furnas of Sycamore, Kansas; girlfriend Connie Thomas of Madisonville, Louisiana; niece Jordan Furnas of Springfield, Missouri; and nephew Gabriel Clark of Sycamore, Kansas, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends are encouraged to sign the book at Webb and Rodrick Chapel on Thursday, October 11th from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family will be greeting friends and family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Services will be held on Friday, October 12th at 2:00 PM at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3167 South 10th Street, Independence, Kansas.

A memorial scholarship fund has been established at Community National Bank in Independence, Kansas for Chris’ niece and nephew. Checks may be made payable to the Furnas Scholarship Fund and left at the chapel or bank. To leave the family a special message of condolence, please visit www.webbrodrickfuneralhome.com.

Interment will be held at Rutland Cemetery immediately following the service.

My deepest condolences and prayers are with his family during this time. Chris will be missed by many by his early departure. It was a privilege to have known him, been taught by him and work along side him. He was one of the most knowledgeable and intelligent people I have ever known. His memory and laugh will always be with me. It was as if they were burned in with a pen of iron, never to be effaced. God speed until we meet again.

    John 14:1-3
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Furnas family and I want to express my sincere condolences for your loss.
Chris was the type of person who was there when you needed him.
I had the pleasure of working with Chris during his time in Louisiana and he always was willing to go the extra mile. No matter how big the problem, he had time to spend to solve it.
He was a friend and a great guy.
Rest in peace my friend and you will be sorely missed by your friends in south Louisiana.

Dear Family...My heart is so sad for you...and it's sad for me and all who knew Chris. For to know him was to love him. Chris was the "Real Deal."
All who had the privilege of knowing him got that. Throughout my 22 plus years in Customer Service in the Ford Lincoln store Chris never failed to encourage me and help anytime I asked. What a total Class Act he
was and I am richer for having known him. My thoughts and prayers are with all who loved him
    and special prayers for Connie.

Chris and I were often lab partners in auto class at PSU. We were the only two from PSU to be hired by Ford in 1993 and started the same day at Ford together. We had recently spent some time together recruiting at PSU for Ford last year. I was happy for him to have been able to move home to be near his parents. Chris was always fun to be around and always happy to see you. I'm shocked and sad for his family. He and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr.chris was a good man to me and taught me plenty of things that I’ll never forget. It felt like not to long ago I was riding my little dirt bike around the yard jumping the little ramp he built for me and having those river days in the boat. Good times you will be missed

Chris was a valued member of the technical field team. He was the upmost professional and willing to help anyone. I personally enjoyed hearing about his beautiful garden when he was in Louisiana - I wasn't expecting him to have a green thumb. He will be missed by his "Ford Family". My prayers are extended to his family, friends, and all those that he touched.

How do I say goodbye to one of the good guys? Chris - you were one of Darin's buddies that I had the pleasure to meet and hang out with. You and I had conversations about life, love and anything else we could think of. Even though we didn't talk as often after we sold our camp at Kings Point, I loved seeing the pics of you. Sending thoughts, prayers and love to your family to get through this difficult time. Heaven has gotten a new angel - keep watch over us crazies in Louisiana. You will never be forgotten! I believe I was one of those responsible for hiring Chris into the Ford family. Chris worked with me for several wonderful years. Chris was a high quality, intelligent and good man. Although I had not been in contact with Chris recently, my “moles” always kept me informed of his well-being. I am shocked and saddened with this terrible news.

Dear Crystal, someone sent this to me to remember a dear loved one and I thought I would send this poem to you....
If Ever There Is Tomorrow from Pooh's Grand Adventure
If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together, there's something you must remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we'er apart, I'll always be with you.
I know in my heart your brother would say this to you and your family. I am so very sorry for your loss. My prayers and warm wishes are with you during this time. Malerie

Chris and I worked Ford cases together for 12+years. As sad as it was for him to leave us in Louisiana to go home, he wanted to be near his family. I loved our last trial. We had a real “jack in the box” attorney we were defending against. Chris sat on the stand and with a straight face responded to questions “define classic”, “I don’t understand you, please rephrase” or my favorite “You’re going to have to do a little better on that question”. I will miss his sense of humor and his love of life. I had immense respect for his knowledge and pride he took in his work, and he made us all a little better at our jobs for it. I wish I could attend his service to pay respect to my wonderful friend. Godspeed Chris, you will be missed.
