Allan Buchanan, 65, unexpectedly passed away peacefully, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin Missouri, while surrounded by his loved ones the afternoon of Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, July 2nd, 2022, at Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
Allan was born on July 31st, 1956, in Independence KS. He was the son of Weldon Buchanan and Doris (McCarty)Buchanan; the couple later divorced. He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1974. He attended Ozark Bible College following high school. He then went on to his long journey at Cobalt Boats where he worked for 43 years, retiring in October 2021 as the boat scheduler with his last “4-9-0” call to sign off. With his extra time, he was a youth bowling coach in Coffeyville for twenty plus years. He was a member of the men’s bowling league, as well as a board member for the Coffeyville Bowling Leagues. He was inducted into SEK Bowling Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2015 Allan, Bill Rash, Kelly Bonta, Mark Reynolds, Benny Yeubanks, and Coach Larry Hiner took first place in the 76th annual KSBA USBC BA Tournament. Allan was inducted into Kansas State USBC Bowling Hall of Fame in April 2016.
Allan was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the Kansas City Royals, and KU basketball. He loved spending holidays with family and friends, watching Chiefs on TV with the family all around. He discovered Pinterest and would send dinner ideas to Anita. He can quote John Wick movies word for word, with his collection of all the John Wick movies. He enjoyed his casino trips with his wife Anita. He enjoyed being involved in sports with his boys during their school years.
Allan married Anita Donnelly on April 7th, 1979, in Fredonia KS. Anita survives at the home. They moved to Neodesha in 1981, where they bought their home, eventually being blessed with two sons, Brett in 1986 and Cory in 1988.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents. Allan’s memory will be cherished by his loved ones; Wife Anita of Neodesha KS; son Brett Buchanan, his wife Sarah of Independence KS; son Cory Buchanan, his wife Amanda of Neodesha KS; grandsons Grayson, Johnathan, and James; brother Johnny Buchanan of Alta Vista, KS; brother Cecil Buchanan, his wife Irene of Altoona, KS; sister Jeanette Bowers of Elk City, KS, along with several nieces and nephews and close friends.
Memorials are suggested to Kansas State USBC Youth Scholarship Funds and can be left at the funeral home or mailed in care of Webb-Rodrick Chapel at 306 West Main Street, Independence KS 67301
