Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory followed by burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. The family will greet visitors from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 27, 2025 at the chapel.
Lyle was born in Independence, Kansas on October 29, 1929 as the second child of Edwin and Pearl Scott. On April 9, 1951, he married Wanda Traxler. Lyle served in the U. S. Navy before and during the Korean War. Following his service to his country, Lyle and his brother Joe farmed together and operated a sawmill. Lyle also worked as a welder for UTL. In 1968, he began a 45-year career operating Scott Rock Company, where he enjoyed every day. “If you enjoy your work, it isn’t work,” he would say.
One of the things Lyle was most grateful for was living his entire life in Sycamore Valley. He grew up spending so many hours playing in the creek that he claimed he could swim before he could walk. Another treasured childhood memory was watching the steam threshing machines and tractors. He was fascinated by big machines and claimed it was this fascination that led to the rock business.
Lyle loved music and played the fiddle, mandolin, and tenor guitar. With his wife, Wanda, his children, and his grandchildren, he spent many years enjoying music. Lyle was a man of integrity, generosity, and patriotism, possessing a positive attitude and a solid handshake.
A devoted family man, he is preceded in death by his wife Wanda and grandson Daniel Burghart. He is survived by daughter Debbie Burghart (Mark) of Little Rock, AR; daughter Cheryl Erickson (Dwight) of Buchanan, ND; son Allen Scott (Joni) of Neodesha KS; daughter Gwen Simmons (Mark) of Centerville, IA along with nine grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren. Living a long productive life, Lyle’s frequent words of gratitude remain: “The Good Lord has been very good to me.”
