Andrew Metcalf

Andrew Keith Metcalf age 19 of Independence passed away on December 15, 2017 due to injuries sustained during an automobile accident.

Andrew was born at Mercy Hospital in Independence on December 9, 1998 the oldest of three sons to Keith and Deborah "Dede" (LeRoy) Metcalf. Andrew attended local schools and had graduated from Independence High School in May of this year. While in school he was active in the band and Jazz Band where he played trumpet. He was an active member of the Valley Victors 4-H Club, some of his favorite projects were woodworking and cooking. He was an awesome baker, his bread was second to none. Andrew had earned the 4-H Key Award which is given to those members that exhibit outstanding leadership, community service, and mentoring. Andrew drove the train for the Ralph Mitchell Zoo and Park during the summer as well as helping out at the family's farm. Andrew was a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence, he was active in the youth group and was a leader in the Awana Club. He was currently continuing his education at the University of Kansas where he was studying Pre-Med. Andrew will be remembered most for his love of Star Wars, his genuine caring and loving nature he always had a hug for all his family and friends, and his orneriness. He loved picking on his younger brothers and cousins. Andrew has been inseparable from one of the biggest parts of his life, his girlfriend Dani Rathbun.

Andrew's memories will live on through his parents Keith and Dede Metcalf, brothers Jared and Mason Metcalf, grandparents, Delbert and Phylis Metcalf and Henry and Marsha LeRoy Jr, aunts and uncles, Melody Moore her husband Michael, Jody LeRoy, Greg Metcalf his wife Bev Aaron Metcalf his wife Michelle, and Daryl Metcalf his wife Kandice, his girlfriend Dani Rathbun, and many cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church with Pastor David Henneke officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the church. In honor of Andrew the family ask that everyone would wear either their favorite Star Wars or KU apparel. Memorials have been suggested to the Independence High School Band or the Valley Victors 4-H Club and they may be sent in care of Webb & Rodrick Chapel 306 W Main, Independence, KS 67301.
