Betty Jo Gates, 91, Independence, Kansas passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2024, at The Journey Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory and no services are currently planned. Betty was born March 6, 1933, in Sedan, Kansas to Clarence and Mildred Harkrader Hopkins. She attended and graduated from Sedan, Kansas Schools. Following her education Betty Married James Gates on November 25, 1960, the couple made their home in Independence, Kansas. Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, one son Jerry O’Daniel, one brother, Doyle Hopkins and two sisters, Deena Fern Keeler, and Lucille Bohannan. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 64 years James Gates of the home, one son, Jimmy ( Theresa) Gates, Independence, Kansas; two daughters, Pam O’Daniel, Nashville, Tennessee; Judy O’Daniel, Independence, Kansas; three grandchildren, Stacy ( Matt) Hickman, Topeka, Kansas; Morgan ( Lee) Decker, Savannah, Georgia; Jennifer ( Tony) Navarro, Payton, Colorado and eight great grandchildren.  To leave a special message for the family please visit www.webbrodrickchapel.com Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory.
