Calvin Pierce

June 8, 1942 — January 8, 2015

Calvin "Pete" Pierce, 72, Independence, Kansas passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas with Christian Joe officiating. Memorials may be made to the Kansas Veterans Home and may be left at Webb & Rodrick Chapel.
Pete was born June 8, 1942 in Cedarville, Kansas to Calvin Mills and Norma Simons and was later adopted by Jim Pierce. Pete attended Independence Schools and graduated from Independence High School and was proud to be one of the Kayo's Boys.
While attending ICC on a football scholarship Pete was active in the Naval reserve and after a football injury he was called to full active duty in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. After returning home Pete worked as a supervisor at Flambo Plastic in MN. He then moved back to KS and was self employed as owner of Pete' Place and other jobs. After his marriage to Hollie he worked for Montgomery County Kansas until his retirement in 2004. Pete also attended auctioning school in Dec 1994. Pete helped start the Caney, Ks and Independence, KS American Legion riders and is a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Pete held the office of Post Commander for the American Legion Post #139. Pete was also a member of the Patriot Guard, Color Guard and a co founder of the Dead End Rally. Pete enjoyed motorcycles, taking pictures, and garage sales. Family was important to Pete and enjoyed his time with his children and grandchildren. He loved talking to people and will be missed by many.
On January 25, 2001 Pete married Hollie (Hastings) and she survives of the home. Other survivors include his children: Bo (April) Pierce, Naples, IL, Toby Pierce, Bluffs, IL, Kimberly McIntyre, Hot Springs, AR, DeDe (Pat) Bitbol, Fairview, NJ, Shawna (Walter) Dickson, Killdeer, ND, three step children, Yancy (Teran) Love, Caney, KS, Christopher (Jacqueline) Love, Independence, KS, Billie Love, Cherryvale, KS as well as one uncle; Richard Simons, of OR, 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
