Judy was born on June 28, 1940 to Hubert and Penelope (Coukoulis) Sherwood in Bartlesville, OK. The family then made their home in Independence where she attended and graduated from the Independence School system. While waitressing at Al's Grill, Judy met the love of her life, Elmer Fienen. On December 22, 1957 the couple was married at the Zion Lutheran Church. To this union they were blessed with three sons and a daughter.
Judy worked in various positions at the Independence junior high/middle school over the years including head bookkeeper, and as the secretary for the vice principal and principal. She retired in 1999 from USD 446. After retiring, she worked part-time as the bookkeeper for Rural Water District 2. Judy was elected as a trustee for Independence Township and served as the treasurer for many years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking for family get-togethers, and was an avid fisherman. She also loved going to rummage sales and auctions. For many years, while Elmer was a volunteer for the Montgomery County Rural Fire Dept., Judy would make calls to other firemen on the calling tree and was very supportive of the entire department. Judy devoted her life to her family and friends, and she adored her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She also grew very close to the many students she worked with while employed in the school district.
