Clara Newkirk

Clara Belle Newkirk, 88, Independence, Kansas passed away on Saturday August 13, 2016 at Medicalodges Independence. Graveside services for Clara will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas. Friends may register on Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m., until 1:00 p.m. the family will greet visitors from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the chapel.
Clara was born September 11, 1928 in Elk City, Kansas to Frank Elworth and Viney (Thurnberg) Tharp she attended Hail and Elk City, Kansas schools. Clara married Ivan Newkirk on October 19, 1947 in Elk City, Kansas. Clara is a 20 plus year member of Community Christian Church and she enjoyed volunteering at the public library in the historical section
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Glenda Mae in 1951, her husband Ivan in 2004, three brothers, Melvin, Pent, ands Alford Tharp, and by four sisters, Georgia (Cecil) Horton, Irene Kingston, Celesta Stong, and Thelma High. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Kay Cavin, Omaha, NE; and Gayle Lavonne Newkirk-Barnes, Independence, KS; four grandchildren, Michelle Cavin, Omaha, NE; Chad Cavin, Omaha, NE; Brian (Tam) Barnes, Port Charlotte, FL; Jason ( Jamie) Barnes, Bella Vista, AR; and three great-grandchildren Dekotah, Kevin and Myah Taylor Barnes. Arrangements by Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory.
