Daniel found his home in Independence, Kansas, where he dedicated his efforts as a custodian at the Independence School District, contributing not only to the maintenance of the facilities but also to the nurturing environment for the students and faculty he served. He was known for his compassionate spirit and his ability to connect with those around him, leaving a positive impact on the community he loved.

A devoted husband to Francesca (Boetel) Ortega, Daniel cherished the moments spent with his family, often enjoying fishing, playing video games, and sharing laughter with loved ones. He was a proud father to his sons, Josh Ortega and Pete Ortiz Jr., and his daughters, Desiree Mertes, Crestil Parrish, and Ashley Ortiz. He also held a special place in his heart for his beloved grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
