David Eugene Corn, Sr.

David Eugene Corn, Sr., age 80, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at his home in Independence, Kansas, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on September 9, 1945, at Cherryvale, Kansas to LeRoy and Ruth Alene (Carpenter) Corn. He attended school in Cherryvale, Kansas and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1963. He served on the Board of the Cherryvale Alumni Association for many years.

David married Mary (Hamilton) Corn on April 29, 1967, in Independence, Kansas. They had two children, David E. Corn, Jr. and Shelly (Corn) McGuire.

David worked for 25 years at Safeway and Homeland Grocery Stores in Independence, Kansas. He also worked as the Manager at Homeland Grocery Store in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Many of his grocery store customers and co-workers became his lifelong friends.

After retiring from Homeland Grocery, he partnered with his son, David Corn, Jr. in several baseball card/sports collectible stores that they owned and operated in Independence, Coffeyville and Bartlesville.

David and his family traveled to more than 300 sports collectible shows across the United States.

He attended the Cherryvale Bible Holiness Church.

David was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Ruth Alene Corn, his brothers Charles and Gary Corn, and his sister Linda (Corn) Wilkerson.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Mary Corn, one son David E Corn, Jr. of Independence, Kansas and one daughter Shelly McGuire, one grandson Tyler McGuire and one granddaughter Michyla Handley of Overland Park, Kansas; three brothers: Larry (wife Gay) Corn, Danny (wife Kim) Corn of Independence, Kansas; Terry (wife Sharon) Corn of Cherryvale, Kansas; one sister Elaine (husband George) Glines of Independence, Kansas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory, 306 W Main St, Independence, Kansas. Burial will take place at mt Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas immediately following the funeral services.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cherryvale Bible Holiness Church and can be left at the funeral home.
