David Keith Hill, 70, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Labette Health in Independence. Funeral services will be 11:00 Friday, July 23, 2021, at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory, with burial to follow in the Lutheran Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 22nd with the family greeting visitors at that time. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church and may be left at the chapel.
David was born April 22, 1951 in Bethany, Oklahoma to Robert and Martha (Tims) Hill. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Independence, Kansas and later was confirmed and became a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield, KS.
David attended Independence public schools and graduated from Independence High School in 1969. After attending from Independence Community College he then transferred to Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma where he received a degree in Mortuary Science.
He began his career in Winfield, Kansas at Swisher, Taylor Funeral Home and then Swisher, Taylor & Morris Funeral Home and relocated to Independence where he continued as Funeral Director for Potts Chapel for many years. He then became an Associate Manager at Webb & Rodrick Chapel until his retirement in 2012.
David married Susan Kay Harclerode in 1971 at Zion Lutheran Church independence, KS. The couple had three children, Gregory David, Carrie Ann, and Scott Michael. They resided in Winfield, Kansas until moving to Independence in 1980.
David shared his many hobbies with his family and friends, including antique clock repair, scroll saw woodworking, painting, sculpting, carving and restoring his 1957 Chevy pickup. He was involved in many community activities; as a long-time member of the Independence Lions Club, serving as Neewollah parade chair and community video productions of Neewollah events and the local Reflections TV show.
David was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Martha Hill, brother Daniel Hill and sister Terri Hill Snyder and daughter Carrie Hill Delano Bacon. Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Susan Hill of the home, his two sons Greg (Gwen) Hill, Aurora, Colorado, Scott (Jennifer) Hill, Wichita, Kansas and son-in-law Terry Bacon, Independence, Kansas and seven grandchildren, Shawn D. (Rhianna) Delano, Lamar, Missouri, TJ Bacon, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Rachel Bacon, Manhattan, Kansas, Haven Hill and Camden Hill, Aurora, Colorado, and Eliot Hill and Nicholas Hill, Wichita, KS.
