Dorothy June Clemmer, 96 of Independence, Kansas passed away at Medicalodges of Independence on Saturday, March 13th, 2021.
Dorothy was born on June 30, 1924 in Independence to Robert and Bernice (Currie) Russell. She attended the Independence schools and graduated from Independence High School. In May of 1947, Dorothy married Kenneth Earl Clemmer in Independence. Dorothy and Kenneth live in Shawnee, Oklahoma from 1957 to 1964. In Shawnee, Dorothy and Kenneth were youth group sponsors and camp counselors. In 1964 they returned to Independence and became active members in the First Christian church Dorothy was a group sponsor and Sunday school teacher. Dorothy worked for Union Gas for a while then later worked several years at The Lingerie Shop. She belonged to a card club and was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary. Dorothy loved to spend time taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren. She was most known for being the Matriarch of the Clemmer family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Clemmer, parents, Robert and Bernice Russell, sons, John, and Thomas Clemmer.
Dorothy’s memory will carry on with her son, Jim Clemmer, five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery on Tuesday, April 6th at 10:00 AM. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Dorothy’s name to FORPAZ.
