Dyarl Newkirk age 90 of Elk City, Kansas passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas.
Dyarl was born May 4, 1930 in Independence, Kansas to Dyarl L. and Laura L. (Dean) Newkirk. He grew up in Elk City, Kansas and graduated from the Elk City High School in 1949. Dyarl then joined the United States Army serving during the Korean War until his honorable discharge.
On December 29, 1951 Dyarl married Phyllis Couch in Elk City, Kansas where the couple made their home. Phyllis preceded him in death on March 8, 2017. Dyarl worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 51 years. He also was a member of the Louisburg Township Rural Fire Department from 1948 until 2017. Dyarl loved to hunt and fish with family and friends.
Survivors include three children Dwayne Newkirk and partner Paul Marquardt of Parsons, Kansas, Pam and husband Gaylan Hamilton of Elk City, Kansas and Cheryl Kahler of Independence, Kansas; five grandchildren Chad and wife Amber Kahler of Elk City, Kansas, Michael and wife Heather Sullivan of Longmont, Colorado, Chris and wife Leona Hamilton of Elk City, Kansas, Jennifer and husband Brandon Giles of Elk City, Kansas, Caitria and husband Gordon Gartner of Independence, Kansas; four great grandchildren Corbin Beckenholdt, Megan Kahler, Reece Giles and Gradon Gartner. Dyarl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, two brothers Don and Noel Newkirk and two sisters Eloise Harkraider and Janette Thompson.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Oak Hill Cemetery with the Pastor Randy Beaman officiating with a presentation from the Firefighters Honor Guard under the direction of the Webb & Rodrick Chapel.
