Elizabeth Strasburg

November 18, 1920 — May 7, 2018

Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Strasburg, 97, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas.
She was born November 18, 1920 in Allen County, Kansas to Harold R. and Merle (Henry) Hewlett. She married Vernon A. Strasburg on March 28, 1948 in Manhatten, Kansas. She was a homemaker and raised three boys, Gerald Vernon, Raymond LaVerne, and Donald Dean Strasburg. As a member of First Christian Church in Independence, she was active in CWF and many different ladies groups and taught Sunday School. Betty enjoyed vegetable gardening and was especially proud of the flowers in her garden and in her home. Once her children were grown with families of their own, Betty spent time visiting her brothers, sister, and their children. She found a sense of adventure in traveling to Hawaii, Niagara Falls, and New England with a close knit group of friends. Most recently, she appreciated visits with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold R. and Merle Hewlett, brothers, H. Robert and Francis L. Hewlett, and sister, Roberta VanBuskirk, husband, Vernon A. Strasburg, and son, Donald Dean Strasburg.
Survivors include her son Gerald V. and wife Judy of Parkville, MO, son Raymond L. of Nowata, OK, daughter-in-law Shirley Strasburg of Edwardsville, IL and grandchildren Bryan Strasburg, Charlene Strasburg, Perry Russell and wife Babette, Rolinda Tomlinson and husband Larry, Curtis Strasburg and wife Allisan, David Strasburg and wife Teresa, and Jennifer Brumback and husband, Ronnie. She leaves behind 16 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
