Elsie Leistikow

Elsie "Ruth" Leistikow, 91, Independence, Kansas passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas. Funeral services for Ruth will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 at The First United Methodist Church with Reverend Earl Haggard officiating. Private burial will be in Parsons, Kansas. Friends may register on hour prior to service time at The First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to The First United Methodist Church and may be left with the Chapel.
Ruth was born May 16, 1925 in Parsons, Kansas to Charles Earnest and Eva (West) Leistikow. She attended and graduated Parsons, Kansas Schools and then attended Pittsburg State University where she received her Master's Degree in Music Education. Following her education Ruth taught music in St. Paul, Kansas, Cherryvale, Kansas, Coffeyville, Kansas, Elk City, Kansas and Independence, Kansas for 33 years retiring in 1987.
Ruth was a very active member of The First United Methodist Church for 60 plus years along with Independence Arts Council, Forpaz, O.E.S.- Progreas #49, Parsons, Kansas, Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society, Kappa Kappa Iota, Sigma Alpha Iota, NEA life member and PTA life member.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, two cousins, Opal and Norman Leistikow. Ruth is survived by her two friends, Diane Lovett and David Tweedie.
