Evelyn Blattner

Evelyn Marie Blattner, age 85, of Independence, KS passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Independence. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held this Saturday, August 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 303 S 10th St., Independence, KS 67301 . The family suggests memorial contributions to Zion Lutheran Church and memorials may be sent to Webb Rodrick Chapel.

Evelyn was born August 19, 1928 in Wathena, KS, the daughter of Conrad W. and Minnie Emma Fecht Nitz. She graduated from Independence Public schools in 1946 and was graduated from Independence Community College in 1948. After graduating from ICC she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the U.S. Treasury Services, she later transferred to Kansas City in 1951 to work for the FAA. After moving to Kansas City she met and married Robert Blattner on October 11, 1954, the couple moved to Torrance, CA, then Denver, CO in 1972. From Denver they moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1980 where they lived until Robert passed away in 2006. In 2008 Evelyn moved back to Independence to be closer to family. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards at the 50s Club and the Red Hats Club.

Evelyn is survived by her brothers: Wayne C. Nitz of Independence and Albert A. Nitz of Caney, KS and two sisters: Emma Jean Dodson and Eloise Clarkson both of Independence as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
