Obituary

George Kelly Kolbinskie, known by most as Kelly or Papaw, entered into the presence of the Lord Tuesday, June 30th, in Independence, KS. Kelly was born September 28th, 1960 in Jacksonville, Florida to Nelson George Kolbinskie and Linda Jean Sudbury. He grew up in Jacksonville, and spent most of his childhood in the same home and community. In his youth, he loved the outdoors and competing in sports. He excelled in football and basketball, and his family camped all over the southeast. He also loved the Florida Gators and spent many Saturdays watching SEC football. Kelly played football at Coffeyville Community College where he met his first wife, Vickie. They married and had two children, Spencer and Taylor. Kelly and Vickie remained good friends after their divorce, and maintained their friendship until his passing. Kelly joined the Air Force in 1980 and served as an Airplane Technician. He was stationed in Valdosta, Italy, San Antonio, Texas and Sumter, South Carolina. Kelly met Robin and they married in Arkansas, where they built their life together. They lived in Arkansas until Kelly resettled in Independence, Kansas near his son Spencer and his family, and closer to his daughter Taylor. He became a member of Crystalbrook Church, where he experienced the love of God and gave his heart to Christ. He is survived by his loving wife, Robin; his son, Spencer (Tamara); grandchildren, Taylynn, Cooper, Brynlee, and Carson; his daughter, Taylor Lee; and his stepdaughters, Brooke and Jamie. He is also survived by his sister, Kathi Kolbinskie Bland (Donne); his nephews, Richard (Elaine) and their children, Rhea and Everett, nephew Jackson; and his niece, Savannah (James). He is further survived by his brother, Ken (Chrissie) Kolbinskie; his nephews, Eddie and Luke; and his niece, Krista (Dionte), and their children, Layla Faye and Kalea Joy. Also surviving are his father, Nelson (Jennifer) Kolbinskie; his stepfather, Gene Sudbury; and his aunts, Patty Huber and Betty Tittle (Tommy). Kelly was preceded in death by his Mother, Linda Jean Sudbury. A memorial service will take place Saturday, July 25th at 12:00 pm at Crystalbrook Church, 801 W. Chestnut in Independence, KS. All are welcome to join the family for lunch afterward. Kelly was deeply loved and never met a stranger. Those who knew him will remember his ornery smile, sense of humor, generous spirit, and the many moments of goodness he shared with others. His friends and family will carry his memory forward with honor and love.
