Gwendolyn Elaine Wiltse age 88 of Independence passed away on August 24, 2018 at her home.
Gwen was born in Independence on February 19, 1930 to Jake and Nellie (Randolph) Weaver. She attended local schools and graduated from Independence High School. Gwen was united in marriage to Harold Wiltse on December 24, 1947. To this union, the couple was blessed with a son and two daughters. Gwen was a homemaker and cared for her children as they grew up. After the children got a little older, Gwen went to work outside the home at Daylight Donut and the family's liquor store. She later set up a daycare at her home and was "grandma" to the children she cared for, even after they were grown. After several years of daycare, Gwen went to work for Windsor Place caring for adults in need of assistance. She worked as a care-giver until her retirement.
Gwen loved going, whether it be a day trip to a craft show or a weekend getaway to Branson as long as there was something to do you could count on her being up for it. Some of her hobbies included painting pictures that she delighted in giving as gifts to family and friends. She had also painted a variety of wooden crafts that she and Harold had made. She was a good seamstress and made a lot of her children's and grandchildren's clothes when they were younger. She loved to dance and was part of a line dance group, and would also go to dances with her brother on occasion. She also enjoyed reading, going to the movies, and playing the piano. Gwen was a member of the First Christian Church, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Everyone that was acquainted with Gwen would agree she was one of the sweetest lady they had known, genuinely kind and caring. She made the world a brighter place by always bringing out the best in everyone she came across.
Gwen's memories will live on with her children, Tonenia Sigars and her husband, Barry, of Valley Center, KS; Starladena Moody and her husband, Wesley, of Coffeyville, KS; and Steve Wiltse of Buffalo, MO, 10 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
She now rests with her parents, her husband of 59 years, and her brothers, Charles E. Weaver and Jack Weaver.
