H. Craig Turner

April 6, 1938 — September 15, 2025

Independence, Kansas

H. Craig Turner, 87, of Independence, Kansas, peacefully left us on Monday, September 15, 2025.

A graveside service to celebrate Craig’s life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Craig's honor to AWOL, which can be left with the chapel.

Craig was born on April 6, 1938, in Parsons, Kansas, to Harry and Juanita (Craig) Turner. His early love for golf blossomed during his time at Parsons High School, where he became a three-time Southeast Regional Medalist and played for the golf team. His golfing journey began at just nine years old as he caddied for his mother. Over the years, his enthusiasm for golf remained vibrant as he celebrated an impressive 14 holes-in-one. Craig treasured follow-up card games with friends after a good day on the course. In addition to his passion for golf, Craig had an immense fondness for cars. His adventurous spirit saw him racing in the late 1960s and trading vehicles frequently—he estimated he owned about 75 cars, including 52 brand new ones, with a particular love for Corvettes.

After graduating from Parsons High School and Pittsburg State University, Craig dedicated himself to a successful career as an adjuster for GAB and Hartford Insurance before becoming a partner at Newkirk - Turner, which later became Newkirk, Dennis & Buckles. He continued to work there until his retirement in 2016. In 1980, Craig married Lynn Rumfelt, and they enjoyed many wonderful years together until her passing in 2002.

In 2011, Craig embraced a new chapter when he married Genny Heisler, becoming part of her beautiful family. Craig was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Lynn; and his stepson Jeff Rumfelt and his son-in-law John Mangan. He is survived by his loving wife, Genny; stepdaughter Chris Mangan; grandchildren Breezy LaForge (Derek), Molly Jones (Brady), and Lexy Sanders (Travis); great-grandchildren Hattie, Ella, Millie, Georgia, Andie, and John Clyde; sister-in-law Janice Dickey; and his cherished puppy, Maggie Jo.
