Homer J. McIntosh, 80, Independence, Kansas passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Labette Health in Independence, Kansas.  Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, KANSAS.  Friends may sign the register on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving visitors from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the chapel.  Memorials may be made to Young’s Chapel or AWOL and may be left with the funeral home.

Homer was born June 21, 1939 in Independence, Kansas to Leroy and Versie (Relford) McIntosh. Homer attended Independence, Kansas schools and graduated from Independence High School. During high school Homer played football and was one of Kayo’s Boy’s. Following high school Homer attended and graduated Independence Community College. Following his education Homer married Bertha Hutton on April 25, 1965 in Nowata, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Independence, Kansas and Homer was employed my Mercy Hospital for 36 years  as head of housekeeping and a surgical technician he was also employed by Brian Cab Company in the evening and weekends. Homer was a long time member of Young’s Chapel where he served as a Deacon he enjoyed working in the yard and tending to his bathtub garden. Homer enjoyed attending his grandsons sporting and school activities and never missed an activity including out of town games.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Donna Rene Collins, four  brothers,   R.S. Sanders, Leroy McIntosh, Roger McIntosh, J. R. McIntosh, and by four sisters, Virginia McIntosh, Hazel Bishop,Oma Brown,  Helen Lunn. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years Bertha of the home. Two grandsons, Samuel  Collins, Great Lakes, Illinois, Anathaniel Collins, Independence, Kansas, one sister, Katherine Brown, Independence, Kansas, his dog Shadow and many extended family and friends.
