Jack Carter

January 19, 1929 — March 2, 2018

Jack R. Carter, 89, Independence, Kansas passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018 at St. Andrews Catholic Church. The family will accept friends on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 5:30 -7:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church with the reciting of the Holy Rosary at 5:30 p.m. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to AWOL and may be left with the chapel.
Jack was born January 19, 1929 in Cherryvale, Kansas to John and Leora Carter, He attended St. Frances Xavier Elementary School and Cherryvale High School graduating in 1946. Following his education Jack helped his father in pulling oil and gas wells and owned and operated his own restaurant in Cherryvale, Kansas until 1948 when Jack enlisted in The United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1952 during the Korean War. Following his enlistment in the Navy Jack was employed by Continental Can Company while attending Coffeyville Community College and then attended Independence Community College graduating in 1954. After his education Jack was employed by Sinclair Pipe which become ARCO Pipeline in 1955. Jack served as a draftsman and later Computer Aid Design until his retirement in 1985. Jack married Patricia Spradling on June 1, 1957 the couple was married for 36 years. Patricia the love of his life passed away on December 6, 1993 Jack was an active and longtime member of St. Andrews Parish.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, John Pat Carter and Jerry Carter. Those left to honor his memory include one sister, Greta Carter, San Diego, CA; two sons, Kevin Carter, Andover, KS; Kirk Carter, Independence, KS; 4 grandchildren, and his best friend Buck Carter. There will be one more empty chair at Jacks lunch group. The family wishes to thank the staff of Coffeyville Regional Medical Center and Dr. Anne Hogsett for the kind and compassionate care that Jack received.
