John C Truitt

John C. Truitt, 68, of Kansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025. A graveside service honoring his life will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas on September 29, 2025, at 10 a.m.

John was born on September 18, 1956, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Roy Truitt and Katherine Jones. Throughout his life, John was a hardworking and dedicated individual. He was employed by several local companies, including Caney Valley Drilling Company, Emerson Electric, Walmart, and a volunteer fire fighter with the Sycamore Rural Fire Department, where he proudly served his community.

John was a man of many passions. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life — fishing, mowing, cutting wood, woodworking, pedaling, and collecting trains. He had a deep appreciation for history and a special fondness for rabbits, which brought him much happiness over the years.

Those who knew John will remember him as a kindhearted neighbor and a genuinely charming, people-loving soul. His warmth, friendliness, and unwavering willingness to lend a hand left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Truitt and Katherine Jones, his brother, Lee Roy “Sonny” Truitt Jr., and his sister, Vicki McCandlis.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jonelle Stevens (Michael) of Valley Center and Leona (Chris) Hamilton, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Caden, Wren, and Remi.
