Larry D. Morris, 85, Independence, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. There will be a Celebration of Life held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 3:00pm at Larry’s home.

Larry was born February 22, 1940, in Arkansas City, Kansas to Alva and Dessie (Vikan) Morris. Larry leaves quite a legacy.

At 17 years old, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1957-1961 where he was a jet mechanic serving in France. After serving his country, Larry found employment with TWA Airlines working his way up to lead mechanic until his early retirement. After retiring, Larry was a volunteer in the Peace Corps serving in Costa Rica. Larry also had several gold claims in multiple states.

Larry was always working on various projects. He shared that his projects kept him inspired and focused on living another day. Larry built a couple of airplanes, taught some college courses, built a water-powered car, and learned to mine underwater to name just a few of his projects he undertook.

Larry flipped 268 homes selling many of them to families that likely would not qualify for a conventional mortgage loan. He wanted to help those that others might overlook. Larry was legally deaf and blind during his last few years. He would hire and teach others how to re-wire electrically, fix the plumbing and any other construction needed to prepare the house for resale.

Lastly, Larry was the lead mechanic and sometimes flew the jet that is at Riverside Park in Independence, Kansas.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife Pat and his granddaughter Abby Keen. Those left to cherish his memory include his life partner Stella Bigley of the home, one daughter Melissa Keen, Independence, Kansas; and four grandchildren, Rhonda, Carson, James Jr., and David Keen.
