Leonard Dewey

Mr. Leonard Lee Dewey age 87 of Independence, KS passed away on September 5, 2014 at Medicalodges of Independence. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Longton Cemetery with Pastor Mike Hughes officiating.
Leonard was born on January 12, 1927 to William and Sallie Howell Dewey in rural Longton. Leonard attended and graduated from Longton Schools. He had worked at the Garage in Longton for 5 years and then at Elk Valley Alfalfa Mills for several years. He moved to Independence in 1952 where he had worked for Sherwood Construction Company, the City of Independence and at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, retiring as sexton.
On August 18, 1948 he was united in marriage to Mary Ilene Burch, Mrs. Dewey preceded him in death. Leonard is survived by a son: Larry Gene Dewey as well as a niece, Sallie Dewey and one nephew, Bill. He was preceded in death by his parents
Services are entrusted to Webb Rodrick Chapel Crematory.
