Linda Elizabeth Sayers passed away at the Labette Health Center in Parsons, Kansas, on Thursday, September 26, 2024.She was born to Richard “Dick” Sayers, and Beulah (Turkle) Sayers on April 13, 1944, in Independence, Kansas. Other than completing her Social Work Degree at KU, and a short residence in Kansas City, she was a lifelong Independence resident. Linda is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Betty Carns of the home, her brother, Stephen Sayers (Vava), and her sister, Carolyn Torrance (Tom) of Independence. Also surviving are three beloved nephews, Mike Sayers of Vail, CO, Paul Dice (Jenny) of Houghton, Michigan, and Sean Torrance (Jamie) of Pittsburg, KS, four great nieces, and two great nephews. Linda was a Social Worker with the Labette County Welfare Office in Parsons, transferring to the Montgomery County Welfare Office (Independence Office of Social and Rehabilitation) in 1973, working as an eligibility and maintenance worker for nearly 40 years, and cherishing the many good friendships she enjoyed with her co-workers. Linda fought several medical problems, including moderate stage Alzheimer’s Disease, becoming homebound in her last years. She had much needed help, care, and support from Betty Carns, Susie (Carns) Sprague, and Carolyn Torrance. In addition, dear neighbors Joe and Shelley Cooley and Scott and Rhonda Webb also provided support, assistance, and the friendship which made it possible for Linda to remain securely and happily at her home until her death. Linda was especially fond of animals and the family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to A.W.O.L. Humane Society (Animals With Our Love, P.O. Box 290, or see their Facebook page for Paypal information.) Or donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Cremation has taken place. Linda’s life will be celebrated at Webb and Rodrick’s Chapel and Crematory, 306 W Main, Independence, KS, on October 20, 2024, at 2:00 P.M.
