She died October 1, 2014 at St. Francis hospital in Wichita, KS. Ann graduated from Wichita North High School, and attended Kansas State University as a Math Major. An avid reader, she loved history and was involved in politics, always ready for a good conversation about either. Her competitive nature was best displayed during board or card games. Throughout their many moves, Ann always made each community home for her family, and became active by teaching Sunday School and Bible School in the Presbyterian Church and acting as Den Mother for scout troops. She was active in Meals on Wheels in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Eastern Star, was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Independence, and was a lifetime member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority since 1948.
Martha Ann is survived by her husband, Gilbert of the home, a son, Mark Cation and his wife Debbie, Ottawa, KS, a sister, Jane Slagle and husband Roy, Tomball, Texas, a sisterinlaw, Susan Barlow, Princeton, Ill., three grandchildren, Mark Adam Cation and his wife Amanda, Chanute, KS, Jennifer Blaine and husband Cory, Ottawa, KS, and Michael Cation and his wife, Katie, Austin, Texas, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, J. Steven Barlow.
Anns eyes were donated for research to the Kansas Eye Bank. Her beloved husband of 67 years, son Mark, and many family members and friends will miss her dearly, but are grateful for the life she lived and the eternal life into which she has now entered.
