Mildred Sands

April 5, 1922 — July 21, 2017

Mildred Bernice Sands, age 95, of Independence, Kansas died July 21, 2017 at Eagle Estates. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal church at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 with Gerald Eytcheson officiating. The family will greet friends at Webb & Rodrick Chapel on Friday, August 18, 2017 between the hours of 6pm and 8 pm.
Mrs. Sands was born April 5, 1922, in Independence, Kansas to Bert and Belle Sharpe. She graduated from Independence High School and attended Independence Junior College, following which she worked in the office of Dr. James G. Hughbanks for ten years.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild here for many years. She also served on Altar Guilds in Arlington Heights, IL, Denver, CO, and Woodland Hills, CA. While in Woodland Hills she served on the ECW Board of the church, and in Denver she served on the board of the Newcomers Club.
On April 24, 1949, she married William (Bud) Sands in the Episcopal Church in Independence. In 1966 they moved to Arlington Heights and lived in several major cities for 25 years. They returned to Independence in 1990. William Sands was killed in an automobile accident in May 2010.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Epiphany Episcopal Church or the Independence Library.
She was a former member of FP P.E.O. in Independence and was active in chapters in Arlington Heights, Denver and Woodland Hills. She belong to Contemporary Study Club, The Historical Museum & Arts Center, Friends of the Library, FORPAZ in Independence; was a member of the Independence Country Club and play in several bridge clubs.
Surviving are a son, Timothy Sands, wife Melissa, Houston, TX; a daughter, Jennifer Revitz Soper, husband Robert, Santa Clarita, CA; a grand-daughter, Mary Cook, husband Justin, Irvine, CA; four grand-sons, Connor, Cooper, Creagon, Cullen Sands, Houston, TX; one great grand-son, Waylon Cook; one step-great grand-daughter, Lily Cook, Irvine, CA. Also surviving is a brother-in-law Harold Tetrick, Deer Park, TX, and several nieces and nephews.
