Mildred (Middy) Tafoya

Bartlesville, Oklahoma

Mildred “Middy” Romaine Tafoya age 71, of Independence, KS passed away Tuesday, December 6th, 2022, at the Journey Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Middy entered this world April 13th, 1951, in Laramie Wyoming to Jay Watters and Joyce Harokopis (McLennan).

She graduated from Pryor Highschool in 1970, then later moved to Colorado where she met the love of her life Robert Tafoya. The two then moved back to Pryor where they were married in 1974 and had two children Julie and Casey. The family then moved to Independence in 1987 where they raised their children for the rest of their years.  Middy was an avid scrapbooker and card maker for her family and friends. She is known by many due to her ownership of the late Klar’s Jewelers. She was employed at Klar’s for many years before the previous owner gave her the opportunity to purchase the business, she did just that until 2004. Middy then purchased the bakery next door and named it “Middy’s Creations” which she ran until 2008.

Middy is proceeded in death by both her parents Jay and Joyce, her step-father Mike Harokopis, and her husband Robert Tafoya.

Middy is survived by her two daughters, Casey Adolph and spouse Jeff and their three children Fiona Jordan, Cooper Adolph and Jaxon Adolph of Independence, KS, Julie Aguirre and spouse David and their four children Reyna Aguirre of Halstead Kansas, Zander Aguirre, Tyson Ketchum, and Addison Ketchum of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Her sister Leah Carman and her three children of Owasso, Oklahoma.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Webb & Roderick Chapel and Crematory.

A remembrance of Middy’s life will be held at Webb & Roderick Chapel in Independence, Kansas on Saturday December 17th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. In remembrance of Middy’s life, the family has asked that all memorial contributions be made to the Journey Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Memorials can be sent directly to the Journey Home at 900 Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74006 or be left with the staff at Webb & Roderick Chapel.
