Nettie Blake

December 20, 1948 — August 4, 2016

Nettie M Blake was born December 20, 1948 in Independence, Kansas to Sidney and Lucille Pouncil (Rice).

Nettie attended Independence schools and graduated from Independence High School in 1967. She was recognized for not missing a single day of school from kindergarten through twelfth grades.

In 1968, Nettie married James D Blake of Coffeyville, Kansas. To this union one daughter, Paris Blake was born. They later divorced.
Nettie had a strong work ethic, strong faith, and strong family values. Nettie gave her life to Christ at a young age, becoming a member of St John Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Junior Choir and with a group called The Spiritual Six. In 2006, she received a plaque in recognition of being a member of St John for over 50 years.
Nettie was employed by Automotive Controls Corporation and its predecessors, in 1972. After many dedicated years and numerous recognitions and awards, Nettie retired in 2013 after 41 years of service.
Family was very important to Nettie. She played an active role in the many family gatherings hosted at her parents' house. As her parents aged, Nettie took an active role in their well being and was a dedicated caregiver. Nettie worked very hard, which sometimes included a second job to provide for her daughter, Paris. Her most recent family project...spoiling her granddaughter, Madison. Nettie had an eye for fashion and loved to shop. She also loved traveling and DIY home projects.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Paris Blake and granddaughter Madison Williams of Arlington, TX; a sister Mary Lou Washington, Mesa, AZ; and a brother, Sidney C Pouncil (Connie) of Independence, KS; sister-in-laws Vera Jackson, Albuquerque, NM; and Anita Pouncil, Wichita, KS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Clyde Pouncil, James E Pouncil, and Robert Pouncil.

She will be truly missed by all.
