Pauline Winkler

Pauline Reola Winkler 86, of Independence, Kansas passed away with her family by her side on Friday evening May 27th, 2016.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday June 2, 2016 at the Webb and Rodrick Funeral Home in Independence, Kansas with Pastor Harold Groth officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.
Visitation hours will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday June 1, 2016 with the family receiving friends during this time. The family has suggested memorials to the First Christian Church in Independence.
Pauline was born June 17th, 1929 in Vera Cruz, Missouri to Clarence Dell Bishop and Daisy May (King). She attended school through the 8th grade and later in life received her GED before entering nurses training. After becoming an LPN Pauline worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital for over 20 years where she was known for her caring nature. On the last day of her life she was cared for by a nurse whom she had trained during her days at Mercy Hospital. She was a long-time resident of Independence.
Pauline attended the First Christian Church where she enjoyed quilting with her friends in the Monday Morning Quilting group. She also belonged to the Christian Woman's Fellowship, Future Planner Group and Sunday School. She was also an active member of AARP.
During her retirement Pauline was a longtime volunteer with hospice where she continued to give comfort. Pauline was a avid gardener and was known for her beautiful flowers. She enjoyed dancing, swimming, traveling, reading and cooking the favorites of her large family. Pauline had a strong faith and a deep love of gospel music.
On July 8, 1985 Pauline was united in marriage with James Winkler. He preceded her in death in 2015. Pauline is survived by eight children, Donna Hinman of Fredonia, KS; Linda (Harold) Groth of Independence, KS; Ronnie (Linda) Hinman, of Kiefer, OK; Robert Hinman, of Independence, KS; Penny Kinnamon, of Tulsa, OK; Butch Hinman, of Edmund, OK; Theresa (Tony) Hayes, of Ottawa, KS; and Gina (George) Vincent of Dallas, TX; and one step-daughter, Janice (James) Lockhart of Dallas, TX. She has ten grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and one great-grandchild.
