Ricky (Rick) Walter Henton, 64, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in Coronado, California. Rick had resided in El Cajon, California for several years where he had retired.
Rick was born on June 29, 1953 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to Walter and Maydene Henton. He was the second of three children, Kathy, Rick, and Randy. The family shortly moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma where Rick attended elementary and jr. high school. When Rick was a sophomore in high school the family moved to Independence, Kansas where Rick graduated from Independence High School in 1971. Rick then joined the Air Force where he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Lousiana. He married Debbie Worl, from Independence, Kansas, on May 19, 1973. The couple had two children, Christa and Kelli. On September 11, 1983, Rick married Cathy Vining, also from Independence, Kansas.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Maydene. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Christa Kay Dubill and David Dubill from Overland Park, Kansas, and Kelli Renee' Bernd and Darren Bernd from Fort Worth, Texas; one sister and her husband, Kathy Henton Hudson and David Hudson from Fort Worth, Texas; one brother and his wife, Randy Henton and Pam Henton from Bartlesville, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Andrew and Ryan Dubill, Alex and Brooks Bernd; four nieces and nephews and their spouses, Bradley Mark Hudson and Amy of Ft. Worth, Texas; Sally Anne Christian and Blake from Ft. Worth, Texas; Emily Layne Ezell and Calvin from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Mathew Ross Henton from Edmond, Oklahoma; eight great nieces and nephews- Andrew, Gracie, and Will Hudson, Brennan, Asher, and Charlotte (Charlie) Christian, Elijah and Aubrey Ezell; and one very special and beloved aunt, Liz Murphy from Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
Rick was very involved with the San Diego Jeep Club and spent countless hours with many of the members of the club either under their jeeps or on the various trails throughout the western United States. The Club and its members had become a second family to him.
The family will host an open house to celebrate and remember Rick's life from 1 to 3 the afternoon of Saturday, September 16, at the Booth Hotel, 201 West Main, Independence, Kansas, 67301.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of the Riverside Park and Zoo (FORPAZ, PO Box 9, Independence, KS 67301); or the San Diego Jeep Club (San Diego Jeep Club, �... J. Mantey, President, PO Box 890776, Temecula, CA 92589-0776).
