Robert Leroy Criger age 80 of Altoona passed away on January 20, 2018 at Diversicare of Chanute.
Bob was born in Rhame, North Dakota on August 9, 1937 to George and Helen (Hoag) Criger. Bob attended school in Marmouth, North Dakota until eighth grade when the family made their home in Howard, Kansas where he graduated from high school. After graduation Bob enlisted with the United States Navy where he proudly served his country for 10 years he went on to serve another 10 years with the Army Reserves. On September 6, 1958 Bob was united in marriage to Maria Vittoria Giovanna Anita (Lanni) in Naples, Italy. To this union the couple was blessed with a son and daughter. The family called Wichita their home where Bob was the Chief Security for Beech Aircraft where he devoted 32 years of service. At the age of 55 Bob retired to an eight acre farm in Altoona, he gave his little slice of heaven the nickname of Mosquito Meadow. Bob loved taking care of his place, he took pride in his property and always had a project whether it be planting flowers, building suspension bridges across the creek, or giving the school children a tour of Mosquito Meadow, and he loved sharing his paradise with others. Bob loved traveling, he was able to see much of the world while traveling with his daughter. He will be remembered around Altoona as Uncle Bob, who always had a joke or a story to tell he sincerely had a great and genuine sense of humor.
Bob's memories will live on through his children, Richard Criger his wife Laurie, and daughter Adriana Criger, brother Mark Criger his wife Jo Ellen, sisters, Virginia Marti her husband Gary and Michele Nunnenkamp her husband Kurt, grandchildren, Lydia Gratton, Stephanie Huddleston, Grant Criger, and Lorenzo Gamalerio, and 5 great-grandchildren.
He now rests with his parents, his wife Maria Vittoria, brothers Donald and Jay Criger and nephew Martin Criger.
Cremation under the direction of Webb and Rodrick Chapel and Crematory has taken place and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fredonia. Inurnment will follow at Cresco Cemetery North of Howard. The family suggests memorials be made payable to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and they may be sent in care of the Chapel.
