Rodney C. "Kirk" Kirkpatrick, age 62, a resident of Longton passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2015 at Sedan City Hospital in Sedan, Kansas.
Rodney was born on September 15, 1952 to James and Marie (McCreary) Kirkpatrick in Sedan, KS. The family made their home in Longton where he attended and graduated from the Longton School system in 1970. On August 13, 1972 Rodney was united in marriage to Teressa Jane Thomas in Moline, KS. Rodney attended and graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Technology, where he majored in Mechanical Design.
After graduating from college, Rodney came back to Longton to help his parents run their business, Kirk's Service, which was located in downtown Longton for many years. In 1983 Rodney and Teressa were blessed with a daughter. Later, Rodney and Teressa opened Kirk's Mini Mart, also in Longton, which they have owned operated together for over twenty years. Over the years Rodney enjoyed several hobbies such as building and flying model airplanes, building dune buggies, computer games, fishing, and golf.
Rodney is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Teressa, and his only child; Crystal Kirkpatrick Bliss, her husband Cliff and one beloved grandcat, Walter. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his younger brother, Chelsea Lynn.
The family invites friends June 22, 2015 at the Longton Christian Community Church at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with funeral services starting at 11:00 with Joe Love Officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the City of Longton, for the purpose of repaving the city streets, and may be sent in care of the chapel.
