Ruthie Scammey

Ruthie J Scammey, age 76, of Elk City, KS passed away on January 30, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
Ruthie was born on November 2, 1939 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to William Henry and Cora Lizzie (Carrier) Parkhurst. Ruthie received her education from Neodesha High School. After high school Ruthie worked for the movie theater and Aerosol. On May 5, 1965 she was united in marriage to Joe Scammey in Miami, Oklahoma, the couple made their home in Elk City, Kansas. Ruthie started working for Midwest Minerals where she devotedly worked for over 30 years until her retirement. She loved quilting, making many quilts for numerous babies, which was also one of her great qualities, giving. She also enjoyed line dancing, country music, going out to enjoy a meal at a restaurant, and going to the movie theater. Ruthie was always known to have a smile and was just an upbeat positive person. She loved to collect stuffed animals and animated toys. Ruthie had a special place in her heart for pugs, but above all she loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Left to honor her memory is her son, Roger L Perry (Diana), daughters, Ronda K Perry, Jean Ann Scammey (Ladonna), brother, Chester Parkhurst, sisters, Rose Carrier, Roberta Dixon, grandchildren, Matthew Perry, Nathan Perry, Zachary Caldwell, and Adam Cudney, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe, and sisters, Nancy Barker and Maggie Berliner.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday February 5, 2016 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with pastor Mark Loftin of the United Methodist Church of Elk City officiating. Friends are invited to sign the register on Thursday the 4th from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Chapel.
