Shelley Brooks

March 27, 1954 — April 15, 2016

Shelley V. Brooks, 62, Independence Kansas, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016 at home surrounded by family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 PM at the church. Following the memorial service the family will greet visitors at the church manse. Friends may sign the guestbook on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory from 9:00 - 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church, Cancer Center of Kansas or Pathways to Housing in Washington D.C. and may be left with the Chapel.

Shelley was born March 27, 1954 in Great Bend, Kansas to Maurice and Ramona (Hall) Tefft. Shelley attended and graduated from Great Bend schools in 1972. After graduation, she moved to Kansas City. She worked for Arthur Murray Dance Studio, where she eventually met her husband. Shelley married Bruce Brooks on February 9, 1980 in Kansas City, MO. The couple made their home in Independence, Kansas, where Shelley was very involved with The First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women. She also served on a variety of committees for Neewollah. Shelley was employed by Dr. Gary L. Beaver, OD for 23 years until her health declined. Shelley enjoyed reading and all types of dancing, but especially ballroom dancing. She also loved following KU basketball and the Kansas City Royals.

Shelley was preceded in death by her father, and her father-in-law, Byron Brooks. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Bruce, of the home, two daughters, Erin Brooks, Washington D.C., Megan Brooks, Olathe, Kansas, mother, Ramona Tefft, Wichita, Kansas, sister, Maureen (David) Henning, Wichita, Kansas, mother-in-law, Julia Brooks, Lawrence, Kansas, two brothers-in-law, Mark (Susie) Brooks, Overbrook, Kansas, and Carl (Nancy) Brooks, Olathe, Kansas.
