Timothy Darnell Davis (Coach Davis), 59, Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Independence, Kansas passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at home. A Celebration of Tim's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017 on home plate at Emerson Baseball Field, 800 South 10th Street, Independence, Kansas with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. In the case of inclement weather the service will be moved to Webb & Rodrick Chapel. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. Memorials may be made to Magic Youth Sports and left with the chapel.
Timothy (Timmy) was born February 6, 1958 in Independence, Kansas to Emanuel and Nettie (Wright) Davis. Tim graduated from Independence high school. While growing up Tim was very active in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduating high school Tim played football at Independence Community College, Baseball Baker University, and Wichita State University. Following his college education Tim was employed as a football coach at Garden City Community College, Hutchinson Community College and Independence Community College, and Independence High School while coaching Tim also refereed high school football and basketball before returning to his true passion of baseball. Tim has been a baseball umpire for 40 years earning his NCAA Certification which had Tim traveling all over the country umpiring baseball including the Arizona Base Ball League and the Alaska Baseball League. He was employed as a supervisor of the Alaska Baseball League.
Tim married Rebecca Stearns on December 19, 1993 in Wichita, Kansas to this union a daughter, Marlee Grace Stearns, was born. The couple later divorced.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Bobby Davis. Survivors include one daughter, Marlee Grace Stearns, Charleston, Illinois; one grandson, Quinn Allen Stearns, Charleston, Illinois; four brothers, William Turner, Independence, Kansas, Louis Davis, Kansas City, Missouri, Terry Davis, Independence, Kansas, Ronnie (Dinah) Davis, Coffeyville, Kansas; two sisters, Ruby Preston, El Sobrante, California, Linda Ellerbe, Fayetteville, North Carolina; many nieces; nephews; and lifelong friends. Arrangements entrusted to Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory.
