Tommy Lyons

Tommy Lee Lyons, 66, of Chautauqua, KS passed away July 7th, 2014 at Medicalodges Independence. Honoring Tommys wishes cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held on Monday July 14th at 10:00 AM at the Chautauqua Baptist Church. Pastor Kevin Fogert of Chautauqua Baptist Church and Chaplin Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Hospice will preside over the service. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Kansas Honor Flight and may be sent to Webb Rodrick Chapel Crematory. Tommy was born on November 8, 1947 in Pawhuska, OK to Otto and Ettie Moler Lyons. Tommy went to Pawhuska schools and graduated from Pawhuska High School. After high school Mr. Lyons proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War receiving several decorations and medals. Even amidst all of the hardships of the war Tommy always found the time to write the love of his life, Miss Karen Sue Cummings. After returning home Tommy and Karen were united in marriage on December 29, 1969 at the Church of the Nazarene in Pawhuska. To this union the couple was blessed with a daughter. In 1981 the family made their home in Chautauqua, KS, where he worked in the oil field and then found employment with USD 286 as Head of Maintenance. He retired after 21 years of dedicated service to the district. Tommy was a very hard worker, helping anybody that might need a hand he enjoyed whittling, playing with his grandchildren, and just keeping busy. He could fix anything. Above all Tommy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Tommy is survived by his wife of 44 years Karen Lyons, daughter Amy Bloomfield, son in law Shawn Bloomfield, grandchildren Madison, Cal, and Mallory Bloomfield, brothers Frank Lyons, Dale Lyons, Don Lyons, stepbrother Gene Crouch, and stepsister Linda Crouch. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jimmy and Gene Lyons. Arrangements have been entrusted to Webb Rodrick Chapel Crematory
