Vickie Darlene Newman

Vickie Darlene Newman 76, Independence, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at home. Cremation has taken place  under the direction of Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. Memorials may be made to AWOL and may be left with the chapel. A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 22, 2023, at West Libert Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas.

Vickie was born July 6, 1947, in Independence, Kansas to Curtis and Margie (Greenburg) Welch. She grew up in Elk City, Kansas moving to  Independence, Kansas. Following her high school education, she attended and graduated from Independence Community College with an associate degree. Vickie married Gerald Robert Newman on October 3, 1965, in Elk City, Kansas.  The couple made there home in Independence, Kansas before moving to Caney, Kansas and then later back to Independence, Kansas. Vickie was employed by ACC for 37 years until her retirement. Vickie was an avid Elvis fan, she enjoyed watching Lord of the Rings, reading, playing softball, golfing, traveling, and bowling she bowled for 41 years consecutively and earned her Grand Dutchess Bowling Patch. Vickie was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star serving as worthy matron.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother Steve Welch and one granddaughter Allison Newman. Those left to cherish her memory include three sons, Curtis ( Debbie) Newman, Neodesha, KS; Jeffery ( Angela ) Newman, Elk City, KS; Gerald Newman, Erie, KS; four sisters, Janie ( Terry) Winkleman, Independence, KS; Ruenae (Pat ) Fowler, Elk City, Roseanne Welch, Elk City, KS;  Holly ( John) McElwain, Elk City, KS; six grandchildren, Matthew Newman, Douglas Newman, Kayla Newman, Heather ( Jerry ) Kenworthy, Donna Newman, David Detar and Fiancée Raeleigh Wyrick, and four great-grandchildren, Michael Howland,  Chandler Howard, Jack Kenworthy and Elizabeth Kenworthy.
