Whitney Tabitha (Wiebe) Woodward

March 3, 1988 — February 28, 2026

Independence, Kansas

Whitney Tabitha (Wiebe) Woodward passed into everlasting life on February 28, 2026. She was just three days shy of her 38th birthday. Whitney lived with intention, grace, and a deep love for others. Her life was hallmarked by faith, family, laughter and kindness to all.

Whitney was born on March 3, 1988 in Overland Park, Kansas, to Wade and Jan (Slater) Wiebe. The oldest of four siblings, she grew up in Lawrence, Kansas graduating from Free State High School in 2007. She carried with her a quiet determination and kindness that would mark the rest of her life. She went on to earn her degree in education from Emporia State University, where she met the love of her life, Dustin. What began there grew into a partnership rooted in faith, friendship, and shared purpose. They were married for nearly fourteen years.

Whitney was an exceptional educator and served as a beloved middle school teacher. She pursued her passion at Burton Intermediate, Hutchinson Middle School, McPherson Alternative Center, McPherson Middle School, and finally at Independence Middle School. The classroom was a happy place for her, where she poured her heart into her students each day. Throughout her career, she continued to grow in knowledge and leadership, earning a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Emporia State University. Recently nominated for Kansas Teacher of the Year, it was evident that teaching was not simply her profession; it was her calling.

Her greatest joy, however, was being a mother. All her dreams came true when she held her sons for the first time. Nolan (10) and Oliver (6) were the delight of her heart and the focus of her days. She embraced motherhood with wholehearted devotion, tenderness, and strength. She was present in the ordinary moments and unwavering in the difficult ones. Her boys know how much she loved them.

Beyond her roles as wife, mother, and teacher, Whitney was a creative soul. She played the cello and delighted in the quiet companionship of a good book.

Whitney’s faith in Jesus Christ anchored her life. While she quietly managed a cardiac condition, Whitney trusted the Lord fully with the number of her days. Her peace despite circumstances reflected a steady confidence in God’s promises. Her life bore witness to hope, and even in the midst of devastation, her family continues to find comfort in God as He has called Whitney home. She leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue through her family.

Whitney will be remembered for her gentleness, her steadfast encouragement, her contagious smile, and the way she made others feel seen and valued. Though her life was far too short, it was deeply meaningful.

Whitney was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Harold and Carol Wiebe.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dustin Woodward; her cherished sons, Nolan Reed Woodward and Oliver Lane Woodward; her parents, Wade and Jan Wiebe; her siblings, Weston Wiebe and his wife, Caylin, and their daughter, Aven; Wren Wiebe; and Winston Wiebe and his wife, Caroline; her maternal grandparents, Lewis and Shirley Slater; her mother-in-law, Wanda Woodward; and a large circle of extended family and friends who loved her deeply.

“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.”

Romans 8:18

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39
