Wilbur Lesslie

Wilbur Fred Lesslie passed away March 4, 2019 at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, OK.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Webb & Rodrick Chapel, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Chapel .

Wilbur was born in Independence, KS on July 18, 1932, to Martin F and Glenna P. (Ashley) Lesslie. He attended various schools in Montgomery County. He and Jean M. Newmaster were married on August 17, 1951, in Independence. Two children were born to the union, a son Fred M. Lesslie and a daughter Teddi Anne Lesslie.
Wilbur farmed most of his life but also worked various jobs during his life including for the old Rilco plant on the south edge of Independence and hauling milk to Swift milk processing plant at Parsons during the mid to late 1950s. The family enjoyed camping, boating, and family reunions.

Preceding Wilbur in death were his daughter; parents; sister Doris C. Wilson and her husband John N. Wilson; sisters-in-law Kathy Lesslie and Karla Lesslie; and brother-in-law George Deyoe.

Surviving are his wife Jean of the home; son Fred and wife Kellie of Muldrow, OK; granddaughters Jennifer Rosson of Niotaze, KS, and Amanda Mitchell of Independence; grandsons Seth A. Malloy of Shawnee, KS; Matthew M., Morgan R., & Mason W. Lesslie, all of Muldrow, OK; great-grandchildren Jenna and Johnna Rosson of Niotaze; Zoë, Devon, and Patrick Mitchell of Independence; and Felix Malloy of Shawnee, KS.; brothers Larry M. Lesslie of Topeka, KS; Michael L. Lesslie and Sharon of Haysville, KS; sisters Charlotte P. Winebrenner and husband Richard of Independence, KS; and Linda L. Deyoe of Perry, OK

Also left to mourn Wilbur is Snoopy, Wilbur's dog who was adopted from AWOL a few years ago and suggests that is a great place to donate for memorials.
