Avana Pouncil Jr., 86, Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022, at his home in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 9:00 a.m., until service time. Avana Pouncil Jr. (Pee-Wee) was born to Avana Buster and Agnes Billie Pouncil on April 5th 1936; the sixth of thirteen children. He was raised in Independence, Kansas where he attended elementary and secondary school.

Joining the U.S. Army in 1954, Avana served two years and returned with an honorable discharge. In 1956 he married the love of his life, Maxine Mayo. He and Maxine resided in Kansas City, Missouri for many years where they raised their five beautiful children, Garland, Edward, Anita, Larry, and Darnisha. He is proceeded in death by his wife Maxine and three children Garland, Anita, and Edward.

Avana worked for the city of Kansas City for 32 years. After retirement he and maxine moved to Independence where they built a home. Never one to be idle, Pee-Wee returned to work, joining Manufactor Fiber Glass Company (MFG) where he worked for 16 years. He remained in his Independence home until April of 2022, when he decided to return to Kansas City to live with his beloved granddaughter Kashay.

In 1989 Avana received and dedicated his life to Christ. He became a member of St.John Missonary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Trustee Board. Every Sunday you could count on Pee-Wee to fix breakfast for the children he rounded up and chauffered to Sunday School and Church.

Pee-Wee had a big heart, his kindness and generosity were unending, he was always giving to others. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

Avana Pouncil Jr. leaves to cherrish his memory: one daughter, Darnisha Pouncil of Kansas City, Missouri; one son, Larry Pouncil of Dyesburg, Tennessee; one brother, Ozell Pouncil Sr. of Independence, Kansas; one sister, Deanna Goodlow of Los Angeles, California; one sister-in-law, Rose Washington of Kansas City, Missiouri; two grandaughters, Kayshay Pouncil and Gina Hall; one grandson Edward Nicholas; nine great grandchildren, Davian, Demetri, Neveah, Jayna, Fevrier, Raejanae, Rahmel, Emeri, and Edward III; and a host of neices, nephews, cousins, and friends.
