Elmer Carl Hinds, 70 of Independence, Kansas passed away at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Monday, December 14, 2020.

Carl was born on January 29, 1950 in Great Bend, Kansas to Elberta Carl and Ahila Mae (Countryman) Hinds. Carl attended Pawnee Rock High School in Pawnee Rock, Kansas. On June 27, 1969 Carl entered the United States Army. He then was immediately sent to Vietnam to help fight for our country. Carl and Sharon were married on June 22, 1971 in Larned, Kansas. Carl was honorably discharged in December of 1971, when he returned home to reunite with his bride Sharon Reed. In 1974 they had their first son, Mike. In 1975, Carl and Sharon moved their growing family to Elk City, Kansas and then had their second son, Donny in 1977. They then moved to Independence in 1993 where Sharon still resides in the home. Carl was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and NRA. He loved woodworking, fishing and hunting, riding his Honda Trike, antique tractors and was known for making numerous phone calls to be the first one in to scrap the wiring from houses that were to be torn down. Most of all, Carl loved the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elberta Carl and Ahila Mae Hinds, brother, John Hinds and grandson, Deryck Ray.

Carl’s memory will carry on with his wife, Sharon, sons, Mike Hinds of Independence, KS, Donny and wife Misty Hinds of Wichita, KS, daughter, Debbie Hinds of Great Bend, KS, brothers, Russell and wife Vickie Hinds of Claflin, KS, and Randy and wife Dawn of Iowa, Nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends at Webb and Rodrick Chapel on Thursday, December 17th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at Rutland Cemetery on Friday, December 18th at 10:00 am.
