Harold Eugene Parker, 88, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Grace Memorial United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Friends may register from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Shrine Children’s Hospital or Grace Memorial United Methodist Church and may be left with the chapel.

Harold was born July 1, 1931 at Vermillion, Kansas. He was the son of the late Reverend John and Lovinia (Swisher) Parker. He grew up around the Independence Kansas area and graduated from Independence High School in 1949.

He married Dorothy Mae Clark on July 16, 1950 at Chanute, Kansas and they celebrated a long marriage of 69 years. He was a person that worked hard from his family but they enjoyed life. He started his working career at the Continental Can Company in Coffeyville, Kansas after 9 years he and his brother wanted to own their own company and purchased a dry cleaner. They owned and operated ABC Dry Cleaners for 13 years, he also worked part-time for the Cement Plant during those years. He retired from both the City Water Plant and KGE. Harold loved to work but also loved to travel and enjoy many cruises, traveling to almost every state, Canada, Mexico and Switzerland.

Harold was a member of the Grace Memorial United Methodist Church, the Masonic Fortitude Lodge #107 Scottish Rite Consistory Valley of Fort Scott Mirza Shrine, and Independence Jokers and was involved in the Shriners Burn Hospital in Joplin. During his youth he mastered the high honor of Eagle Scout.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Homer and Lloyd and sister Lois. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Dorothy of the home, two daughters Linda Stearns, Overland Park, Kansas, Kay Culp (Greg), Helena, Montana, and one son, Kevin (Emily) Parker, Independence, Kansas, three grandchildren, Aaron Culp, Anchorage, Alaska, Stephanie (Nate) Harris, Casper, Wyoming and Ben Parker, Independence, Kansas. He was a great grandfather to Stephanie and Nate’s two sons, Wyatt and Sawyer Harris, Casper, Wyoming. To leave a special message from the family please visit www.webbrodrickchapel.com.
