Paul Newmaster

Longtime farmer and rancher, Paul R. Newmaster, 87, of rural Neodesha, KS, passed away peacefully at his home on January 25, 2020. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the First Christian Church located at 319 W. Laurel Street with internment to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church. Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the chapel.

Paul was born in Independence, KS on January 5, 1933 to Fred L. and Lucile (Connor) Newmaster. He grew up in Independence, KS, graduating from Independence High School in 1951.

Upon his return home from the U.S. Army, he married his high school sweet-heart, Joline Spradling, on October 13, 1956. She preceded him in death December 25, 2001.

For many years Paul raised crops, Angus cattle, and Quarter Horses. After losing his wife, he cut back to raising cattle and horses. He loved watching his stock and crops grow, and always strived to have the best cattle and fast horses. In 2007 he earned the honor of Central Division High Point Breeder with the American Quarter Horse Association. In 2019 he was again recognized by AQHA for being a breeder of Quarter Horses for 50 consecutive years. Besides being a member of AQHA, he also was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association, and First Christian Church in Independence, KS.

Preceding him in death in addition to his wife include parents Fred and Lucile Newmaster and brother Lowell and Lloyd Newmaster.

Survivors include daughter, Paula Marchant and husband Jeff of rural Liberty, KS, granddaughter Haley Marchant, Independence, KS, sister Jean Lesslie, Independence, KS, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.
