September 1, 1947 ~ July 29, 2021 (age 73)

Obituary

Virgil Dale Imhoff (73) of Independence, KS, passed away on July 29, 2021 at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, OK with his family at his side.

Virgil was born September 1, 1947 in Deadwood, SD to William and Agnes (Dixon) Imhoff. The family made their home in Elk City, KS where Virgil was raised, attended school and graduated from Elk City High School. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he bravely and proudly served during the Vietnam War. Virgil was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he endured from a combatant mortar. He was honorably discharged and returned home where he married his lifelong friend, Debbie Hedges. The couple was united in marriage on May 29, 1971, and they were blessed with a son and a daughter. They made their home in Boise, ID where Virgil worked as a BioMed technician at the VA Center for 25 years. Virgil and Debbie then returned to Independence, KS, to be closer to their family.

Virgil enjoyed being in the outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping and caring for his animals. He was always up for a trip; typically planning his next destination while still on vacation. He was always tinkering with a project and was truly skilled in woodworking. It would be hard to find a more honest, loyal, hard working or generous person than Virgil Dale. Above all, Virgil loved spending time with his family; whether it be swinging next to his beloved bride, chasing grandchildren or sitting at the table playing cards.

After being wounded in Vietnam, Virgil had an outlook on life that most just don’t. Once he made up his mind to do something, he found a way to accomplish just that, no matter what it took. Virgil found ways through the most thoughtful gift giving to let people know just how much he truly cared for them.

Virgil will be missed most by his wife of 50 years, Debbie, his son, Chris Imhoff and wife, Kayla, of Elk City, KS, his daughter, Tina Burchett, and her husband, Steven, of Hudsonville, MI, his brother, William Imhoff, of Elk City, KS, his sisters; Alpha Jones of Twin Falls, ID, and Sylvia Imhoff of Superior, NE, grandchildren: Cutter Imhoff, Rose Imhoff, Hayden Freimiller, McKenzie Miller, Brayden Benson, Shane Burchett, Darian Burchett, Ethan Burchett, and Keydon Burchett, and great-granddaughter Olivia Burchett.

Virgil has joined his parents and sister, Joan Karg, in heaven.
