Wanda Lee (Botts) Rush long time resident of Independence KS passed away Saturday December 31 surrounded by loved ones at Labette Health Hospital in Parson Ks.

She was born on December 14, 1935, in Independence Ks to Roxie and Roy Botts. She graduated from Independence High school in 1953. She Attended Independence Junior college and Wichita state University where she obtained her Elementary education bachelor’s degree. She furthered her education degree obtaining her master’s degree + 60 hrs.

While attending WSU she meets the love of her life Jim Rush and they were married on June 18, 1955 for 67 years. They resided in Wichita and Mulvane Kansas where she began, her teaching career in Haysville school district until 1964. They moved the family to Independence KS where she was a dedicated educator for 30 years with USD 446. She was a teacher by nature even after retiring she continued to follow her passion by teaching line dancing and water aerobics until June of 2022. The love of singing, sharing God through worship and song while singing around nursing homes and various churches with her brothers and sisters.

She was a member of the former Order of the Eastern Star Prosperity Chapter 134, along with leadership position with NEA during her teaching career.

She is proceeded in Death by her parents Roy and Roxie Botts, Brothers: Cecil, Kelsie, Earl and Larry Botts. Sisters: Elsie Powers, Opal Robinson, Mickey Anderson, Mattie Muller, Hazel Fansler, Bonnie Smith.

She is survived by her husband Jim Rush of Independence Ks, Kenneth (Donna) Rush of Decatur AR, Mike (Alice) Rush of Grove OK, Towanna (Danny) Watson of Independence Ks. Grandchildren: Kenney Rush of Centerton, Jason Rush of Holly Springs NC, Kendal Rush of Bentonville AR, Matthew Rush of Centerton AR, Roxie Drawdy Independence Ks , Shasta Harker Centerton AR, Christy Rush Grove OK, Kailynne Rush-Taylor of Centerton of AR, and 19 Great Grand Children. One brother Elton (Marilyn) Botts of Afton, Ok and one sister Getta (Gary) Mundy of Independence, KS. And many nieces and nephews.
